What's the Past Tense of Feeling Bad?
Is it "felting" bad? Hmmmm. How will that sound if I use it in a sentence? "Making your own own hat pattern and thinking you can control the size that it should become after throwing it in the wash can result in Felting Bad."
What I'm trying to say is that I've got the most hilarious example of when felting goes wrong. Check out that which should have shrunk down to be a most beautiful pill-box style hat with the design on the top. Believe me, I had it all worked out in my mind. This baby was going to shrink to exactly the right size, based on my swatching and faith in the yarn gods to make my projects turn out the way my brain intends. I used a piece of cotton yarn through the bottom and pulled it to the size that "I" wanted. But instead of smooth perpendicular lines, I got pleats.

Perhaps the yarn gods are trying to tell me that I am not ready to run in my own direction ("more training you need, grasshopper"). Perhaps it's time to put the training wheels back on the proverbial yarn bicycle (had you heard of the yarn bicycle? It's really something to behold.) and stick to knitting from someone elses patterns. And perhaps I shouldn't have spent so much time making a hat for someone who is on fadeout path from my life. In any event, feel free to laugh along and make suggestions for what this could be, since it is obviously not a hat. Hot Water Bottle Cozy, maybe?
